Ramos stumbles, but Iowa wrestling team wins

Iowa overcame three straight match defeats Thursday night, including top-ranked 133-pounder Tony Ramos’ first loss of the season, to rally on the road past No. 15 Edinboro 22-19.

All-American A.J. Schopp scored a first-period takedown and held off Ramos 3-2, NCAA finalist Mitchell Port pinned Iowa’s Josh Dziewa at 141 and No. 3 David Habat put the Fighting Scots ahead 13-4 with a major decision at 149.

The third-ranked Hawkeyes (5-0) charged back with five consecutive victories and sealed the dual win when freshman 197-pounder Sam Brooks registered Iowa’s fourth major decision of the night.

Thomas Gilman (125), Derek St. John (157) and Mike Evans (174) also scored bonus points for the Hawkeyes.
