Souvenirs from Iowa’s improbable, final-play win against LSU in the 2005 Capital One Bowl involved a missed opportunity and a mystery.
Warren Holloway, who caught the 56-yard pass that capped Iowa’s 30-25 victory, said confusion about end-game protocol cost him a keepsake.
“I thought we had to kick the extra point, or I would have kept the game ball,” he said. “That’s the only reason I didn’t keep it.”
Holloway did keep the gloves he wore in the game, using those during his arenafootball2 career.
Drew Tate, the quarterback, said he nabbed a memorable souvenir — but laughed as he refused to identify it, even if the statute of limitations had expired.
“I can’t tell you what it is, but it isn’t the ball,” Tate said. “If I told you, somebody would be like, ‘Oh, that’s where that went.’ But trust me, it’s a good one.”
