John Lowdermilk’s blunder nearly costs Iowa touchdown

With LSU leading Iowa 14-0 in the third quarter of the Outback Bowl, Hawkeyes’ defensive back John Lowdermilk intercepted Tigers’ quarterback Anthony Jennings and looked like he was going to put some points on the board.

But like in too many unfortunate cases before him, Lowdermilk did not protect the football/made a poor assumption that he had crossed the goal line, and after returning the interception 71 yards, he dropped the ball at the 1-yard line and therefore did not score a touchdown.

This should never happen. Just hold onto the football. Why even think about letting go? Have players still not learned from the likes of Leon Lett, Danny Trevathan and DeSean Jackson?
