Could Michigan lose a third sophomore to the NBA draft this offseason? Maybe.

Both Glenn Robinson III and Mitch McGary figured to be two-and-dones after they almost declared for the draft after their freshman seasons last year. (Of course, McGary’s back surgery might scuttle his plans.) But the third sophomore with pro basketball in his sights appears to be Nik Stauskas.

In an SI.com story published Tuesday, his father, Paul, dropped this nugget of information: “He sees the brass ring, like three inches away from his nose. He knows all he has to do is keep his nose to the grindstone for another couple of months, and there’s a really good possibility he might be able to go pro. He’s working really hard to achieve that.”

Stauskas arguably has been the Wolverines’ best player this season, partly because of his motivation from a sub-par Final Four performance last year, partly because of his 15-pounds-heavier physique and partly because he has more ability to go to the basket without Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. on this year’s team, SI says.
