Iowa’s schedule: Hoosiers on Thursday, another game moved back

[ 0 ] February 21, 2014 |

Iowa’s men’s basketball game at Indiana has been rescheduled for Thursday, Feb.27, at 8 p.m. at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind., the schools and the Big Ten Conference said today. The game will be carried on ESPN.

In addition, Iowa’s March 1 game against Purdue at Carver-Hawkeye Arena has been moved back a day to Sunday, March 2, to make the condensed schedule not as daunting. Iowa-Purdue will tip off at 1 p.m. and will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

The Iowa-Indiana game, originally scheduled Feb. 18, was postponed after a piece metal fell from the ceiling at Assembly Hall early that afternoon.

The Hawkeyes have played one game in 14 days. Starting with Saturday’s home game against Wisconsin at 11 a.m., they’ll play four games in nine days. To save travel time, the Hawkeyes will fly from Minneapolis to Indiana after the Hawkeyes’ 6 p.m. Tuesday game at Minnesota.

Iowa, 19-6 overall, is 8-4 in Big Ten play and one game out of first place in the loss column. League leaders Michigan and Michigan State face each other Sunday.

“We appreciate the efforts of all those involved in working together during this process,” Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said in a statement. “I especially would like to thank Purdue’s administration and Matt Painter for agreeing to move our game. Being able to move the Purdue game to Sunday allows us to have two days of preparation for both the Indiana and Purdue games next week.

“Our players have conducted themselves with a great deal of maturity and have had a professional approach all season long, and I expect that to continue the remainder of the year.”
