JUCO point guard Trey Dickerson commits to Iowa

[ 0 ] March 9, 2014 |

Junior college point guard Trey Dickerson helped to cheer up a depressed Iowa fan base with one tweet on Saturday.

Shortly after Iowa’s 66-63 loss to Illinois at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, the 6-foot-1 Dickerson announced on Twitter that he had committed to Iowa.

“I am a Hawkeye Iowa bound!!!,” Dickerson tweeted in all capital letters.

Dickerson was planning to visit Nebraska and Arkansas before making a decision. But now he appears finished with the recruiting process.

Dickerson is the third player to join Iowa’s 2014 recruiting class. High school senior forward Dominique Uhl and high school senior shooting guard Brady Ellingson both signed letters of intent with Iowa during the early signing period in November. Dickerson will sign his letter of intent in April.

A native of New York City, Dickerson averaged 19.8 points and 5.7 assists per game as a freshman at Williston State College in North Dakota this past season. He will have three seasons of eligibility at Iowa.

Now the attentions shifts to Dickerson’s friend and fellow junior recruit Willie Atwood, who also has a scholarship offer from Iowa. Dickerson said he and the 6-8 Atwood, who attends Connors State College in Oklahoma, have talked about playing together in college.

Iowa coach Fran McCafffery still has one scholarship available for the 2014 recruiting class.
