JUCO forward Willie Atwood to visit Iowa this weekend

[ 0 ] March 24, 2014 |

Point guard Trey Dickerson has said since committing to the Iowa basketball team on March 8 that he and fellow junior-college recruit Willie Atwood are serious about playing together at the same Division I school.

The 6-foot-8 Atwood is now showing that he’s serious about it. He will take an official visit to the University of Iowa this weekend.

Dickerson expressed his excitement on Twitter after learning that Iowa would be Atwood’s first official visit.

“Willie coming to Iowa City this weekend let’s gettttt itttttttt,” Dickerson tweeted in all capital letters.

Atwood, who attends Connors State College in Oklahoma, also has scheduled a visit to Florida State on April 10 according to online reports. Atwood did not respond to a text message requesting an interview.

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery still has one scholarship available for the 2014 recruiting class and Atwood appears to be his top target.

A native of Memphis, Tenn., Atwood is considered one of the top junior-college prospects who still hasn’t signed a letter of intent with a school.

The 6-1 Dickerson, who attends Williston State College in North Dakota, is expected to sign a national letter of intent with Iowa in May and will have three seasons of eligibility. He is the third player to join Iowa’s 2014 recruiting class.

High school senior forward Dominique Uhl and high school shooting guard Brady Ellingson signed with Iowa in November.
