Media members are usually not welcome at the workout for depart Hawkeyes, but Brandt counted representatives from 28 NFL teams.

Tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz was drawing much of the attention, and worked out for Bengals assistant coach Jonathan Hayes – another former Hawkeye.

Fiedorowicz is generally considered to be among the top five tight end prospects in this year’s draft.

“He is OK, but not great at catching the ball,” Brandt wrote at NFL.com, “but is a really good blocker.”

Hawkeye linebackers Christian Kirksey, James Morris and Anthony Hitchens were among 13 players who participated in the workout.

Hitchens ran 4.60 seconds in the 40-yard dash. “Hitchens had a good workout and looks like a priority free-agent pickup possibility (after the May 8-10 draft),” Brandt wrote.

Kirksey ran 4.50 in the 40. “Kirksey is a very good athlete who can play in space. However, he needs to get stronger to excel in the NFL,” Brandt wrote.

Morris ran 4.59. “Morris is another good athlete who needs to get stronger, but he also has the ability to play in space,” according to Brandt.

Brandt’s general impressions of Kirk Ferentz’s Hawkeye Pro Day?

“The pro day is well-coordinated and run like clockwork at Iowa,” Brandt wrote. “The scouts love the place.”
