[ 0 ] April 21, 2014 |

Northern Iowa football coach Mark Farley has announced the hiring of Frank Verducci as the new tight ends coach.

Verducci coached at Iowa under former head coach Hayden Fry from 1989-98.

Verducci’s hiring was first reported by the Iowa City Press-Citizen on April 2.

Verducci, a 1980 graduate of Seton Hall, has been coaching since 1984 and was with the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League last season. He served as the offensive line coach for the Alouettes, helping the team to a No. 1 ranking in pass protection in the CFL.

Verducci has coached in the Big Ten, SEC and in the NFL under such names as Will Muschamp, Charlie Weis and Lee Corso.

After his stint at Iowa, Verducci joined the Cincinnati Bengals as the tight ends and offensive line coach from 1999-2001. He also coached for the Dallas Cowboys in 2002 as the head offensive line coach. He then moved to the Buffalo Bills from 2004-2005 as the tight ends coach and eventually the head offensive line coach.

Verducci spent two seasons with the Cleveland Browns from 2007-2008 as an offensive assistant coach.

After taking a year break from the NFL in 2009 where he served as the offensive run game coordinator and offensive line coach for Weis at Notre Dame, he returned as a pro personnel/advance scout for the St. Louis Rams.

Prior to heading to the Canadian Football League, Verducci spent a season in the SEC with the University of Florida under the direction of Muschamp.

His first job out of college was at Northern Illinois University where he was named the running backs coach and oversaw the strength and conditioning program for head coach Lee Corso in 1984.

Verducci has been a resident of Iowa City for 24 years. He and his wife, Noel, have two children, John Francis and Cameron Noel. Verducci’s brother, Tom, is a baseball commentator for the MLB Network and Fox Sports.
