[ 0 ] April 22, 2014 |

The father-in-law of Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz has died, according to an obituary by the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette.

Gerry Hart, 83, died of natural causes. He played football at Notre Dame and West Point, then officiated NFL games for 10 years.

He was a New York native, but his work in sales led him to the Pittsburgh area. That’s where his daughter Mary would eventually meet Ferentz.

Hart and his wife Gene were married 60 years and had six children.
