Former Hawkeye Oliver has a new coaching job

Former Iowa point guard Dean Oliver has been hired as an assistant basketball coach at Illinois State.

Oliver spent the previous three seasons at North Dakota, where he worked for former Northern Iowa player and Iowa assistant coach Brian Jones.

Oliver, an all-state guard at Mason City, is No. 10 on Iowa’s career scoring list with 1,561 points.

Oliver played at Iowa, for coaches Tom Davis and Steve Alford, from 1997 to 2001. Oliver then played professionally, for two seasons with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors and then overseas.
