Ferentz, Iowa in running for top prep LB Justin Hilliard

[ 0 ] May 23, 2014 |

The Iowa football team has made star linebacker Justin Hilliard’s final five.

Hilliard, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound native of Cincinnati, trimmed his list of schools to five on Friday morning. He announced his decision on Twitter by posting photographs of the five head coaches from each team, including Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz.

Hilliard, ranked by Rivals.com as the nation’s top inside linebacker in the 2015 senior class, also posted photographs of Ohio State coach Urban Meyer, Michigan coach Brady Hoke, Alabama coach Nick Saban and Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly. Hilliard had previously cut his list to 10 schools as he sorts through a long list of scholarship offers.

Iowa has at least one thing working to its advantage, which is the fact that Hilliard’s older brother, C.J. Hilliard, signed a letter of intent with the Hawkeyes in February and is set to join the team this fall as a freshman running back.

Iowa currently has eight players committed to its 2015 class, all of whom are high school seniors-to-be, including five from in state.

NCAA rules prohibit college coaches from commenting publicly on a specific recruit before the recruit has signed a national letter of intent. The national signing period for the 2015 senior class will start on the first Wednesday in February.
