McCaffery’s son ranked among nation’s best in Class of 2017

Connor McCaffery is starting to make a name for himself as a basketball recruit.

ESPN.com ranks the 6-foot-5 McCaffery, who is about to finish his freshman year at Iowa City West, as the 24th-best prospect nationally in the 2017 senior class.

McCaffery helped lead West to its third consecutive Class 4-A state title in March as the starting point guard.

McCaffery is the only player from Iowa to make the list. He is the son of Iowa men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery.

Michael Porter, a 6-6 small forward from Columbia, Mo., is ranked fifth on the list. He is the son of former Iowa women’s basketball player and Cedar Rapids native Lisa Becker.
