Did you expect anything different?

Like either one of those “other” coaches didn’t use some questionable practices to pull recruits from other schools before either? I wish it wouldn’t happen, but the reality is that it does. Iowa has been on both sides of the fence in this situation also.

Well, if Meyer is just swaying recruits from other schools, then what does that say about those coaches? Did he do something against the rules, or just contact and recruit aggressively and convince those recruits to switch to Ohio State?
If Meyer didn’t break any rules, then I see no problem with it. Maybe some Big 10 coaches need to become that aggressive. Learn a lesson from this.
The Big 10 coaches need to realize something… There’s a new villain in town. Stand up to the guy. Don’t sit and pout about it. Next year, get aggressive and out-recruit Meyer!
If this were a western movie… What would Clint Eastwood do?

What?! I thought we were okay with coaches recruiting kids who verballed to other schools. Make up your mind people.

We don’t like chair throwers…unless he’s ours.
We don’t like screaming idiots…unless he’s ours.
We don’t like minor infractions…unless ours does it… inadvertently.
We don’t like players who go after heads…unless he’s ours.
We don’t like players accused of crimes…unless he’s ours and until he’s convicted.
We don’t like Tubby Smith…but he has a better record…
We day we don’t like NW’s coach or Brett B, but wished he was ours.

I hear a movie theme…….
The Death Star, appearing like a large red block “O”, slowly makes its way across the constellation…..
At its helm is newly appointed leader, Urban Vader, in his white tOSU pullover uniform. His mission, to overtake the galaxy, B10, and make all of its leaders subservient to his and the Death Star’s ultimate power. His army of 4 & 5 star storm troopers, made of volunteers, conscripts, and mercenaries, will face any foe on the green battlefield each Saturday (except for one off week) each fall..
D’Antanio is from the planet with the bar (with all of the “interesting” people)….
I think you get the rest…..

Glass houses people, glass houses. Unless there are specific infractions against the rules, these coaches have all poached players who verbally committed to another school. These are 17 year old kids, why are you surprised that a slick adult got them to change their mind?

Speaking of which, has Kozan signed elsewhere?

I nominate Clint Eastwood to play the part of the B1G commissioner and Larry the Cable Guy to play the part of Urban Meyer.

I also nominate Ilhawk to play the part of Minnesota coach Jerry Kill.

80s has got a lock on the role of Bo Polini- he is so annoying.

Golden,
you get it!Posted 108 days ago -
Sorry, I opened a similar thread before seeing this one.
As for glass houses, etc., I think there’s a qualitative difference here. All coaches practice this to a certain extent, but it’s like equating a person who occasionally drives five miles over the speed limit to one who drives thirty miles over.
I have a feeling KF abhorred these practices until the last three seasons or so. Now it’s, “If you can’t beat them, join them.”
Meyer is a snake who has brought some of the unprofessional SEC tactics to the B1G. What goes around, comes around, so hopefully he’ll suffer in the end.

It depends on how it is done. For example, if a player (or player’s parent) whom you have offered but verballed to another school contacts you, then it is OK. I think that is what happened with Barkley Hill. If you go after another school’s verbal hard, then you are violating the Big Ten coaches’ “gentlemen’s agreement” about such practices. It’s not illegal – just not something that is “done” in the Big Ten.
Has Bielema done this? I mostly remember him drafting off Iowa’s recruiting efforts – swooping in and offering when Iowa has offered.
The best revenge on Meyer would be if the other Big Ten coaches would agree to continue the gentlemen’s agreement, WITH THE EXCEPTION of OSU’s verbals.
BTW, Alvarez is not backing up Bielema on this.
