In light of Joe Paterno dying and reviewing his record as a college coach you will see that he had a high % win/loss record, 2 national championships, linebacker-U status but very mediocre years after Sandusky retired.
Now looking at Iowa and fans frustration with Ferentz and our defensive coordinator retiring it was interesting to find that Ferentz has been more successful then Hayden Fry in putting winning seasons together.
The trend seems to have a good team for 2 to 3 years and then have two to three years of 6 or 7 wins.
Looking at History:
In 113 years based on data Ferentz is doing very well in comparison to other coaches who have come through Iowa City. Look at Fry’s last two years and what happened when Ferentz took over.
The difference is that Fry got us to the rose bowl 3 times despite 3 losses. I didn’t realize that two of our rose bowl teams were just 8-4.
