I hope the CHA crowd really gets off their hands and welcomes Dr Tom, who in my opinion was really shafted by Bob Bowlsby. Fired for taking IA to 9 NCAAs in 13 years, 10 – 20 win seasons and I don’t believe he ever lost in the first round of NCAA. Dr Tom always seemed like a class guy to me and deserved better than he got.

He is by far my most favorite coach at Iowa. Class act, all the way. I think he will draw a huge standing ovation from the crowd on Saturday.

Dr. Tom is a class act. My son went to BB camp there 3 yrs and has a nice picture of Dr. Tom, Chris Street and my son.

Dr. Tom always produced. But I guess he was not “dynamic” or
“sexy” enough for the fans or administration. The rest is history. Be careful what you wish for in football.Posted 109 days ago -
We goota win this one for Dr. Tom and the 1987 Elite Eight team.
CHA should be packed and very loud, just like in the Davis era.And Bowlsby still sux. And I always root against Stanford

i think bowlsby should be invited too and booed out of the arena. he almost lost his job at stanford in 2008, and a couple of coaches saved his ***! i wish they hadn’t. i know a few big alums at stanford who absolutely despise him, as do i, and many iowa fans.

Dr. Tom is great gentleman, love IC so much he stayed even after the bad firing. I’m glad Drake gave him some love and Dr. Tom made Drake relevant and set up a good class for his son to take over and leap frog to a bigger program. Although Keno didn’t succeed for whatever reason, both Davises are doing fine. In a way, good karma paid them back in kind.

Dr. Tom could have won a big ten championship if the other teams in the league weren’t cheating at the time. He ran a clean program, he won, and he kept his kids out of trouble. The Chris Street loss was devastating to him, both personally and professionally, as that team had the right kind of talent to make a splash. In my opinion dr Tom was the best x and o coach we have ever had at Iowa. I wish I could make it back for his appearance at CHA. And yes, I hate Bawlsby too, passionately.

Ah yes Bowlsby ran Davis out of town for whatever stupid reasons, so that means we should be happy with average football.

Not extending Dr Tom’s contract may have been Iowa’s worse coaching decision ever.

If I recall correctly, there were plenty of fans wanting someone and something different for the program. Don’t lay it all at the feet of the administration. Large donors did and still do carry some sway.

golden……You make a very good point. I recall many, many ‘old’ donor types, boosters who wanted Docta Tom replaced. ‘He could only get us to the sweet 16, you know and ‘boy wonder’ could get us to the Final four.’ Remember hearing that a lot……..
Still, I blame it ALL on one guy. Raef LaFrentz.
If he would have ‘Manned-up’ and stayed at IOWA, like I did and Adam Woodbury is doing, none of the malaise would have happened.:-) ***** you Raef LaFrentz
