Maybe Stubbs too
But, Ogelsby is the best scoring option this team has right now.
And he plays as good defensively as any of the other guards on the team.

He had a very good night. He hustles. I’m thinking start Oglesby and sit Cartwright.

Cartwright has become more of a liability than a plus. I don’t understand how a player can regress as much as Cartwright and Basabe have from last year. If everyone was regressing it would be understandable as a coaching deficiency, but many others on the team have been improving (even Archie has shown improvement). It’s very puzzling to say the least.
The big plus is that a vast majority of the talent on this team right now are sophomores and freshmen. With a very good class coming in next year, it is a reason for hope going forward and the program at least going in the right direction.

I think Cartwright may have over-achieved a bit last year, when everything was running through him and he was on the court all the time. He still is getting a lot of assists for the amount of time spent on the floor, but his deficiency on D has been more evident this year.
Basabe seems more lost this year and I wonder if he is really missing the mentoring of Jared Cole.

Ogelsby needs to start and play a lot.
He is a better shooter than Marble, Gatens and you cannot say that he is less of a defender than either Devyn or Matt. For the future of the team, Ogelsby needs to start, RIGHT NOW

Um, Matt is a pretty darn good defender for the most part, probably the best on the team. I would take Matt guarding a player over Ogelsby right now any day of the week, and twice on game days.

I don’t believe Ogelsby is a better defender then Matt. Not even close right now. As far as a better shooter that is yet to be seen. When Matt is on the floor 38-40 min. he is covered and watched every step. Ogelsby has a ways to go before I would say he is a better shooter then Matt. Now that doesn’t mean I don’t think he should get more PT he just won’t be stepping in for Marble or Matt as a starter.

Watch the replay of the Indiana game, fellas.
And then try to tell me when Matt had a shooting night like that.

Oglesby is adjusting very well, and seems to feel more comfortable shooting the bsll when he is open. Even with Fran’s Green Light, license to shoot, any time, there was a long period of time where Josh was reluctant to shoot especially after missing a shot or two. He is a natural shooter and his jump shot is textbook perfect. His turn around fade-away jump shot reminds me of Oscar Robertson. I really liked his aggressive attitude shooting the ball Sunday. I have a feeling he will be hard to keep out of the starting lineup next season. Fran is going to have quite a few combinations to choose from.
He is starting to show another aspect of his game, driving to the basket. He is calm, cool and collected with the ball, and his passing is very good, Earlier in the season, I really liked Josh’s behind the back pass to McCabe under the basket that went out of bounds through Zach’s hands. Fran took him out of the game immediately. I thought it was a well-executed creative pass. Creativity is somewhat lacking on the team, other than Devyn and White.
Some players play best coming off the bench, I believe Aaron White is one. When he comes in, a lot of the time he is instant offense. I also believe Josh would be more effective and comfortable playing off the bench. He has hit a few crucial shots throughout the season. Sunday at Indiana, he played exceptionally well. One of the best shooting performances in a while. With Aaron and Josh coming off the bench together, we have two players who know how to score and are getting better and better as the season goes on. They are, and will continue to create problems for the opponents off the bench, rested and ready to play.
Matt and Devyn are better defenders than Josh at this point, and should be in the game from the start.
I really like Josh and always have thought he is one Fran’s most important recruits because of the timing of his commitment. It was just after Brust and Larson were released, and Uthoff choose Wisconsin. We were not getting the best players in the state, and the cupboard was bare. Things looked dim. Josh broke the trend and started to bring credibility to the program, attracting Aaron White and Gabe Olaseni, who is showing potential. Who knows how good he will be with game experience. Josh committing to the Hawks led to Gesell and Woodbury coming on board.

KK I think Josh O is going to be a very good player. I sure won’t judge Matt over one game at Ind. I could go back and look at games where Josh didn’t do to well either. No way should Josh start ahead of Matt and it will never happen unless Matt would get hurt.

Exactly skeeter. One game does not a great player make. I agree that Josh O has a lot of potential but he is not better than Matt offensively or defensively yet. I would like to see both Josh O and Olaseni get more playing time and experience and build them up for next season as well.
Comanch has a good point about coming off the bench being a better position for both White and Josh, at least for this season, although, the way Basabe has played, I’m not sure Fran has much of a choice on White though.

particularly this year with improved conditioning, gatens’ defense should be evaluated as a 35-minute project. he is always there–usually in the right place. he is not brilliantly quick but can play at the same speed all night. he’ll get beat some, but he isn’t a pushover over the course of the game.
i look forward to oglesby’s future contributions, but he’s an off-the-bench guy now. with basabe, may, and cartwright all struggling the hawks do have a serious rotation problem. i understand the temptation to pull the plug on one or all of this trio, but doing so pretty much would concede the balance of the season and signal the start of playing for next year. not the right move just now, i think. we might revisit this view in a couple of weeks.

Kidding, right? I like the kid but he will be coming off the bench still next year. Marble and Gesell will run the show.

Gatens & Marble need to start getting it done, then.
Very poor performances (especially Marble’s defense) againsst Indiana and Michigan, have opened the door for Josh Ogelsby to be a starting guard for this team, RIGHT NOW.Posted 110 days ago -
I won’t put up the stats for Matt G. D. Marble and Josh Ogelsby. As I said before ONE game does not earn you a start. The right ones are statrting.
