Nebraska put on probation by the NCAA. Next bad move, which I’m sure they will have happen SOONER rather than later, they’ll be banned from Bowl games, just like Ohio.

Article doesn’t say which sports were involved, could have nothing to do with the football program.

400 some athletes in 19 sports.

Wow, helping kids along by buying things for learning. I’m sure that was the “benefit” that sealed the deal on the athletes coming to Nebraska. What a major violation, NOT.
I have never understood how “full ride” doesn’t include the necessary things like books and class supplies. I suppose it has to do with equality and that the cost books and supplies for different majors would be way different.

HS,
You know the supplies cost for basket weaving, ceramics, and aquarium maintenance are much higher than a book for marketing.Steven Bloom’s Urban studies class has such variations in lab materials due to the changing street price of the test materials; Don’t even get me started on the Fencing or Karate uniform costs.
Although there is a strong secondary market for marketing books (mine was still in the wrapper when I resold it – they still said it was “used”).

tsnyder……..
‘Steffan Bloom’ teaches Urban studies? LOL…….Steffan will probably go the way of the former UI Polly Sci teacher who ‘ate a bullet’, when the coed disclosed that he was asking for ‘favors’ for better grades.
Steffan is the epitome of elitist d-bag, who’s never done an honest days work in his life.Posted 109 days ago -
The “benefit” is that some of these athletes were selling their textbooks to others for cash. This has been a problem at certain SEC schools too, most notably Alabama.
Nebraska is going to find out that the Big Ten is tougher about some of these things than the Big Twelve or the old Big Eight.

Wondering if the BIG 10 is trying to keep this ‘under wraps’, allowing the Cornholers into the conference, not being an admitted AAU school and now on probation with the NCAA?
If so, Delany can **** / still think they should have been admitted on a probationary basis……we could have had TCU.., Pitt or Arkansas or, or or

KK, the AAU really means nothing unless you are the professor type that you all hate. As stated before Iowa is right in their with Nebby, Purdue, IU, and MSU as the bottom feeders of the B10 in academics.
I hate Nebby, but outside of Medical research, nebby probably does more real worthwhile research than Iowa. It means nothing.
The traditional B10 teams have little or nothing over Nebby in purity.
Let’s see…Mich, Wisky, Rodents, OSU, IL and I’m sure others. IL would have probably gotten the death penalty has not WW2 vet Tom Niland drove a spear thru SMU and part way thru OU.
IL is also guilty of lying about entrance levels of students.
Let’s see, didn’t the FBI investigate Iowa? That was a very very strange game.

“… not being an admitted AAU school and now on probation with the NCAA?” IMSR, Nebraska was an AAU school when they were invited to join the Big Ten. They were kicked out of the AAU on a very close vote after they were invited, but before their official admission. Again, IMSR, some of their former brethren in the Big 12 voted them out of the AAU as revenge and in a curious twist, I seem to remember Wisconsin declined to vote for keeping Nebraska in the AAU. The whole episode stunk of gamesmanship and pettiness. Nebraska was railroaded out on a few technicalities, which could easily be used against Iowa, if we did not have the Medical School earning us credits in AAU rankings.
Here is a link to just one report of the expulsion from the AAU. It makes for interesting reading.http://bleacherreport.com/articles/693354-nebraska-sacked-was-expulsion-from-the-aau-reprisal-for-leaving-the-big-12

Wisc, ah but wild speculation and misinformation is so much more fun.

Why is God’s green earth are there Hawkeye fans who delusionally try to defend the Cornholers.
FACTS:
1) They are now on NCAA probation, that is FACT
2) They are the only school in the Big Ten COnference that is not considered to be worthy of being an AAU instititution.
What is so hard to understand? They are DEFICIENT as an academic instittuion, cleary. So, worship their weird athletic department if you insist, but do it knowing they blow as an academic institution.

Not defending the Huskers at all. Just exposing ignorance. Other than not AAU which is fact, you know nothing really about it. My 9 yo likes to talk about big subjects to “try” and be a big girl.
Iowa is a part of the B10. The academic standards are in a group of bottom on the B10 floor. Association does not make Iowa an prestige academic university. Being in the AAU doesn’t make Iowa a top flight research university. In reality, Purdue (the lowest bottom feeder) does much more actual research outside of medical. Nebby probably exceeds Iowa outside of medical.
To go to Iowa, you need to show up for class in HS and get about a B average and not really prepare for the ACT/SAT. To go to say IL annoy, you pretty much have to be in the top 10% of your graduating class and/or have a 30 ACT or or higher. NW even higher. Ever wonder why so many Chicago kids come to Iowa?
I”m probably a bigger Hawk fan than even you. Being a Hawk fan doesn’t mean leaving intelligent conversation behind and dissing anything not black and gold and espousing that everything black and gold is gospel.
If you are going to call Nebby deficient as an academic institution, it’s like coffee calling the kettle black.
Mizzou, who many on here like to put in the same boat actually has higher, but similar academic standards for undergrads.
Fact is if Iowa were on the outside, they likely would not have made the B10 this year.
You gonna tell me that Iowa has never done anything to be on probation?
If you wanna talk weird, you should be in a B10 town when Iowa football comes to town and visit the malls before and after the game. It’s one thing to be a fan and wear school colors, but frankly there are a lot of black and gold bearing people who need to get out of the corn fields and hog lot and experience the world some.

As one of the “Hawkeye fans who delusionally try to defend the Cornholers”, I am exercising my right to respond. For your information, I did not defend Nebraska, I corrected your mistaken indictment of Nebraska’s AAU membership. They were an AAU member when invited to join the Big Ten (Fact#1), they were expelled by a very close vote (fact#2), and several of the schools that voted them out have grudges against Nebraska (fact#3) that may have contributed to their voting position. What You said, “…not being an admitted AAU school” was a total misstatement, since they had been admitted previously (fact#4). Now if you can’t handle being called out when you are wrong, that is your problem Mr “I know everything there is to know!” In my opinion, Nebraska’s violation with the textbooks is pretty minor when compared to the nonsense I hear about with Auburn, tOSU, Oregon and numerous other schools.
I also realize that the inclusion of the U of I Medical school in the Iowa Statistics, while Nebraska has to exclude their Medical School from their numbers, because their Medical School is based in Omaha, is a pretty slim distinction, that is hardly worthy of note.
Now, take your biases KK and shove them where the sun don’t shine!
ps. Based on the grammar, spelling, and syntax errors I see in the posting on Iowa message boards, we have no business pointing fingers at anyone else regarding their lack of education.
GO HAWKS!!!

Guys, let me take this one…..I think I can dumb it down to the right level.
Kev,
I think it is a fair assumption to say that NO ONE on here likes Nebraska. It also appears that several people don’t particularly like your style or your misguided views.
KK < Nebraska
Hence the appearance that people are defending Nebraska is really not true. They are simply offending your misguided and uninformed view.
Hope that helps.
